Foreward
The wave of AI is now sweeping through the world of art. Just as analogue compositional techniques such as collage and assemblage gave rise tophotomontage, the advent of personal computers soon ushered in the world of computergraphics; now, AI is set to radically transform the world of visual art once again. The paceof this transformation is astonishingly rapid. Indeed, even the term ‘computer graphics’ isbecoming obsolete.
If the world of visual art can be created through language pr ocessing alone, there is no need whasoever for paint, brushes or canvases. No specialist operating skills are required either. It is, so to speak, a world where ‘anyone can be Picasso’. If one absolutely wishes to decorate a wall or space with a physical object, one need only feed the data into a printer.
Faced with an AI landscape that has advanced to this extent, how will the world of painting and sculpture̶created using traditional materials and techniques̶be positioned? This is a fascinating question, but one thing is certain: it is ultimat ely humans who will pioneer new forms of expression. We will not be dominated by AI.
We, all the staffs, are confident that this year’s gallerism2026 will stand up to scrutiny from this perspective.
